TORONTO FURNITURE BANK
Toronto Furniture Bank is a social enterprise and charitable organization dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals and families establish homes. In 2012, the organization launched a supportive employment program called Leg Up, which focuses on providing hands-on training and work experience to marginally employed individuals. The organization recently expanded the program to include a furniture repair workshop, and took this expansion as an opportunity to review the overall vision and design of the program. Action for Change was hired to do this work.
We conducted a review of program design documents and met with staff to discuss priorities for Leg Up expansion. We used this information to develop a staff workshop agenda to refine the overall concept and vision for Leg Up. We then developed a detailed step-by-step program design guide to support staff through refining each component of their program review.
“Action for Change has had a profound and lasting impact on how management and the board look at and manage Leg Up day to day. The care and diligence taken with staff and development activities has allowed us to leverage this employment program to become a multi-disciplinary activity and the focal point of our fundraising success. I would whole heartedly endorse Action for Change and Sue Kelleher specifically for supporting program design, review and development.”

UP WITH WOMEN
Up With Women is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping recently homeless and at-risk women to build sustainable, prosperous careers and businesses with the aim of permanently exiting poverty. Clients undergo a year-long intensive program of strategic career development. The organization is currently expanding its services and as part of this expansion, Up With Women wanted to revisit and strengthen their current intake process. Action for Change was hired to do this work.
We interviewed staff within the organization to understand their current processes around intake. We used this information to develop and map a refined intake process and new screening tools for both referral partners and the organization itself. We tested our tools to verify they would streamline decision-making and successfully capture the target group identified by Up With Women. We worked with staff to trouble-shoot, review and finalize the process.
“Action for Change’s work has really helped to refine and strengthen our program intake – their development of standardized tools to guide the recruitment and screening of potential participants has made a huge improvement to our process. The team was professional and delivered an excellent product to meet our needs. It was a pleasure to work with them, and I would highly recommend them.”

CANADIAN CENTRE FOR VICTIMS OF TORTURE
The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture is a non-profit, charitable organization which aids survivors to overcome the lasting effects of torture and war. The organization offers a range of programs and services, including ones specifically built for refugee youth and children. As part of a broader strategic planning process, CCVT wanted to complete a review of its current youth and child services. Action for Change was hired to do this work.
We themed, analyzed and synthesized client raw interview and survey data to develop a summary report and needs assessment of current youth and child programs and services. We interviewed key staff to identify their barriers and needs in providing enhanced services. We summarized findings in a report that identified strengths and needs in current service delivery as well as opportunities and potential strategies for future program development.
“Action for Change helped us gain a clear picture of our youth services at CCVT through clear illustration of program and service strengths & needs. Their work directly informed our strategic planning process and helped us to identify our priorities for future youth programming. The team worked efficiently to deliver a useful and informative document within a tight timeframe. I would highly recommend them.”
